Preserving Embryos in Liquid Nitrogen
The embryo cryopreservation serves:
- in cases where IVF attempt made with fresh embryos fails,
- if the couple decides to have more children.
Thanks to Embryo Cryopreservation, extra embryos of IVF, which will not be used for embryo transfer, can be cryopreserved and maintained for a long time.
The success rate is about the same as in cases where fresh embryos are used, and studies have shown that the method of cryopreservation is safe and does not affect embryo quality. The embryos and semen are frozen using special cultivation and are kept in liquid nitrogen at –196oC.
