5 common misconceptions about IVF
Fertility treatments are a broad and complex topic, thus people often hear false ideas about it. Here are the 5 most common misconceptions about IVF.
1 – We are not falling pregnant so IVF will be our only option
This is not necessarily true. There are numerous options available before IVF is explored such as ovulation induction and intrauterine insemination. Of course, this depends on your circumstances. It is important to take the step and talk to a specialist about possible options for you.
2 – IVF is expensive
While IVF is never cheap, there are numerous options available to lighten the financial burden. Researching different clinics and exploring IVF abroad can be a good way to save money while still receiving exceptional medical care.
3 – If we do IVF we will fall pregnant straight away
While it would be wonderful for all couples to fall pregnant on their first attempt, unfortunately a pregnancy is never guaranteed. It may take numerous cycles to achieve a pregnancy and unfortunately in a small number of cases, IVF still does not work.
4 – I won’t be able to cope with the pain and stress of IVF
Any medical procedure can be daunting. IVF is not completely pain free, however everyone is different. You may find that the side effects that you experience are not nearly as bad as you imagine, or have heard they can be.
5 – All IVF clinics are the same
This is not true. There are different technologies available that not all clinics have implemented. It is important to research the clinic you are considering and ensure it has the most up to date procedures and technologies available.
